Smith Prayer & Praise - June 2006

Please click below to see some prayer items. Thanks for your prayers!

I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.
I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.
1 Cor. 9:22b-23

Dear Prayer Team,

Thank you for being participants with us in the spreading of the gospel through your prayers. May was full of many blessings and activities. Please visit our website to see pictures of these various activities: http://www.smithconnection.com/2006/06/photos_june_2006_1.html

WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR...
- The activities that brought about growth and change in May including a national leadership conference on missions, a regional women's seminar on forgiveness, and a marriage supper.
- The 12,000 World Cup soccer evangelistic tracts that were handed out by our church, and the 500,000 total that were handed out all over Mexico. What a great tool this is to spread the gospel message! For more on this, read this article on our website: http://www.smithconnection.com/2006/05/soccer_excitement.html
- The good health and protection God has given us. We have all recently had Dr. appointments, vaccinations, and tests done, and we are all generally in good health.

PLEASE PRAY FOR...
-Our continued preparation for our June 30 departure for home assignment. As I write this, Lori has gone out for breakfast with many of our church women as a "good bye". Many of the families that we have been involved with over the last three and a half years are wanting to have us over or take us out in the next few weeks before we leave. It is an emotional time for us. Please pray for safe travels during the month of July, for a good transition for our family, and for time to accomplish all that needs to be done before we leave.
- The transition the church here will be going through. We praise God for the good meetings Bryan has had with six of the men who have agreed to take on more responsibility in the church. Pray that all would have unity and be patient with each other in this time of transition. We know it is Christ's church, and He will see it through this next year.
- The new people who have been coming to church and want to study God's Word. Earlier this week we got a call from the sister of one of the young men Bryan has had the privilege of discipling. Through tears she said, "Bryan, I want the same changes for my life that I have seen in my brother. When can I start studying the Bible with you?" We had our first study with her on Thursday evening, and she is very open to God's Word. Please pray for Frida, and others that want a study, that they would soon put their faith in Christ alone. Pray for our church people as they will carry on with these evangelistic and discipleship studies.
- Our finances. As our home assignment trip approaches, we are praying that our ministry account will have sufficient funds in order to make the upcoming trip, and to cover other expenses such as the World Cup tracts that we have recently handed out. During our whole first term here in Mexico, God has provided for our needs in a wonderful way, and we know that He will continue to do so. Please pray with us for this need.

FAMILY

Among other things, we have been busy packing up and cleaning in preperation for our up-coming home assignment

Tara spends a good amount of time with our dog, Cooky. They are going to miss each other!

Kendra has enjoyed her dance classes. Her final presentation is coming up on June 10.

MINISTRY

The youth hanging out at a Christian coffee shop here in Queretaro

The National Leader's Conference was held May 4-6 with the theme of "Preparing the Mexican Missionary Force" It was a great conference with Gustavo Soto as the speaker. Five of us went to the conference from our church, and Bryan even got pushed into the equivalent of the "chubby bunny" marshmallow game, "fresno frondoso" in Spanish. Bryan won with seven marshmallows!

The youth put on a special program for the mothers at our home on May 9. We had about 20 mothers come for the evening.

While the kids were being cared for by Grandma & Grandpa Smith, Lori and Bryan went to some meetings in Pachuca.

On may 13 the church mothers and teachers were honored, and all enjoyed fellowship and tamales afterward

Stamping 11,000 World Cup tracts to hand out at two soccer games here in Queretaro. For more information on this evangelistic effort please see our journal entry titled Soccer Excitement!

On May 20, 13 ladies went with Lori to a Women's Conference in the city of Salamanca dealing with the theme of forgiveness

On May 26 we enjoyed a marriage supper with 5 couples from our church. We made pizzas and watched the movie "A Vow to Cherish"

On May 27 we attended Emilio and Christy's wedding celebration. Emilio has been in a leadership training program that Bryan has been involved in teaching, and Christy was a fellow CAM missionary. The Mariachi band at the reception was a special treat!

Our two Sunday school classes - Monica and Karla teaching the younger kids, and Rodrigo teaching the older kids
